Resuscitation Update for Medical Professionals (2-4 Hours)
Registered professionals such as GPs, Nurses, and Dentists, as well as range of allied health care staff, have an obligation to stay in date with current practise and maintain competency.
This short course can be provided on site in your surgery, hospital, care home etc. This tailored course includes a practical resuscitation update (at the level requested) and where necessary defibrillation training.
HSE Emergency First Aid at Work (in Health Care Settings) (8 Hours)
Awarding Body: The Health and Safety Executive (HSE Centre Reg No. 29/99 NUCO).
This course is an extended HSE EFAW course tailored to the specific needs of health care settings. We have provided this course in hospitals to hundreds of health care professionals and support staff who do not normally deal with emergencies as part of their job role, but may have to provide Emergency First Aid to co-workers or patients.
By the end of the course, candidates are able to demonstrate the essential knowledge and skills needed to deal with life threatening emergencies in the workplace with special consideration to specific issues involved in Health Care Settings.
Course Contents
• Responsibilities and Reporting
• Primary and Secondary Survey
• Basic hygiene in First Aid
• Dealing with the Unresponsive Casualty
• Resuscitation
• Control of Bleeding & Shock
• Minor injuries
• Angina & Heart Attacks
• Choking
• Seizures
• Anaphylaxis
• Diabetic Crises and Strokes
In addition the course facilitates, through both instruction and peer-to-peer learning, a full understanding of the specific emergency procedures in the participant’s health care setting. This includes:
• Internal emergency numbers
• The presence or absence of crash teams
• Provision and locations of First Aid and resuscitation equipment
• Patient handover and internal accident reporting systems.
Manual and Certification
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a 3-year qualification will be issued to those who meet the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of about 3 hours, although it is not mandatory. All students receive a copy of our handbook - ‘Emergency First Aid Made Easy’.
Wilderness Extension for Medical Professionals (2 – 5 Days)
For health care professionals who wish to build on their existing skill and knowledge base by learning wilderness protocols and practicing emergency care in realistic outdoor scenarios/OSCEs.

Oxygen Administration & Management (2 Hours)
This course gives staff such as Practise Nurses the necessary skills to administer Oxygen Therapy in emergency situations and an understanding of the British Thoracic Societies Guidelines for Emergency Oxygen Use in Adult Patients.
The tutor will carry out an on-going assessment as well as a short written test and successful students will receive a certificate valid for three years.
This is a practical hands on course and includes:
• Legislation
• Safe use of Oxygen Therapy equipment
• SP02 Monitoring
• Cylinder storage
• Connecting equipment
• Contra-indications
• Assessment.
Anaphylaxis and Administration of Adrenaline (2 Hours)
Where an employer’s assessment for First Aid needs identifies that staff should be anaphylaxis aware and able to administer adrenaline (such as in care settings where egg cultured flu vaccines are provided) this course provides the necessary training.
Students are instructed in both the theory behind and the practical administration of adrenaline and receive copies of the most up-to-date Resuscitation Council protocols on the management of anaphylaxis.
