Course Outline

This new HSE approved qualification came into effect on the 1st October 2009, along with new guidance on assessing the needs of First Aid in your workplace. Your risk assessment of First Aid needs may well identify the need for Emergency First Aider's, either as an addition to your First Aider's, or where the risk of your business is low, it may well identify them as being sufficient, without the need of additional First Aider's.

The course programme is designed for individuals who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and attain a recognised qualification in First Aid. By the end of the course, candidates will be able to demonstrate the essential knowledge and skills needed to deal with life threatening emergencies in the workplace.

  • Responsibilities and Reporting
  • Assessment of the Situation
  • Basic hygiene in First Aid
  • Dealing with the Unresponsive Casualty
  • Resuscitation
  • Heart Attacks
  • Control of Bleeding
  • Minor injuries
  • Angina
  • Choking
  • Shock
  • Seizures

Certification

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a 3-year qualification will be issued to those who meet the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of about 3 hours, although it is not mandatory.
